The Mizrachi movement has made considerable progress •during the period under review. Special progress is noticeable, both in Palestine and the Diaspora, in the Mizrachi Youth Organisations, " To rah A/aavodah." There has also been progress in the " Hashomer Hadati," and in the " Bnei Akiba " in Palestine. The Hapoel Hamizrachi in Palestine has been an important factor in the Yishub. Recently several rural settlements have been established by the Hapoel Hamizrachi, such as Irgun Intensivi A, in Kfar Piness, near Karkur, consisting of fifty families; Irgun Intensivi B in Emek Hefer (Vadi Havareth), consisting of seventy families; Irgun Kfar Jaavetz, near Tel Mond, with a membership of twenty; Irgun Salvendi, near Petach-Tikvah, consisting of twenty families; and also the quarter of the Hapoel Hamizrachi in Kfar Chassidim. The settlement of the Hapoel Hamizrachi, Sedeh Jacob, in the Emek, was consolidated last year and is anticipating the arrival of new settlers. The Grand Council of the Mizrachi which met in Lwow in the month of Ab in 5694, was first in proclaiming the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the birth of Maimonides, which has since been followed with special emphasis by all classes of Jewry in Palestine and the Diaspera. The Mizrachi published a collection of essays dedicated to the memory of Maimonides, and edited by Rabbi J. L. Fishman. ORDER OF ANCIENT MACCABEANS. Executive Officers : Past Grand Commander, Nahum Isaac Adler; Grand Commander, Professor Selig Brodetsky; Deputy Grand Commander, Abraham Blain; Deputy Grand Commander (London), Lewis Levy; Grand Treasurer, Morris Wilks; Grand Trustees, Samuel Phillips, Harry Davis, and Marks Goldberg; General Secretary, A. H. Freeman. Membership.—Effort among the Youth has been the main activity of the Order since the last Congress, resulting in the formation of Junior Beacons in the following towns :—Leeds, Dublin, and an additional two in Manchester. It is felt that by these means Zionist ideology is being planted in fertile soil. Contributions to Zionist Funds.—The Order contributed £1,000 towards the School at Mishmar Ha-Emek, apart from donations to the Zionist Funds. Propaganda.—With the election of Prof. Bro. Brodetsky as Grand Commander, a programme o f propaganda visits was arranged for him. Very successful meetings were held in each town where Beacons are situated, which, in the long run, must result in great advantage to the Cause. Shekalim.—The annual quota of Members' Shekalim was distributed, in addition to which members of the Order were very active in the general sale of Shekalim. 254
