Palestine, the United States, Canada, England, Austria, South Africa, Hungary, Belgium, Holland, Rumania (including Bukovina and Bessarabia), Brazil, Greece, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Poland (including Galicia), France, Czecho-Slovakia, and Switzerland. During the last two years new Mizrachi societies have been, established in Bulgaria, Chile, Uruguay and Algiers. Members of the Head Office of the Mizrachi, Rabbis Berlin,, Fishman and Gold, and other delegates visited various countries, for propaganda purposes and for organisation work. Since the last Congress, Mizrachi conferences have been convened in the United States, Poland, Holland, Czecho-Slovakia, East and West Galicia, Hungary, Bukovina, Transylvania and Lithuania. After the last World Conference the new Executive of the Mizrachi was received by the High Commissioner for Palestine, to whom the deputation presented the demands of the Mizrachi in various fields, and particularly with regard to enabling Jewish workers to observe the Sabbath, and the Government's participation in the Chief Rabbinate's budget. The Mizrachi educational system, which is a part of the general educational network, is progressing favourably. The number of pupils attending Mizrachi schools exceeds 8,000, and many pupils anxious to enter Mizrachi institutions, especially in towns, have to be turned away owing to a lack of suitable accommodation. In many places schools are being opened which demand to be included in the Mizrachi system and under their supervision. Under the auspices of the Organisation of Mizrachi Women in the United States a special institution has been established in Jerusalem for teaching a profession and domestic science to girls, called the Mizrachi Girls' School in Jerusalem. Last year this school absorbed scores of Jewish girls from Germany. Similarly the Kibbutz Rodges in Petach-Tikvah, consisting of members of the Hapoel Hamizrachi, absorbed a considerable number of German Jewish children who emigrated during the last two years. With the help of the restricted budget of the Jewish Agency and with special funds from other sources, the Mizrachi managed to maintain, although with difficulty, the clergy who have been appointed through the instrumentality of the Mizrachi during the last few years. There is a constant demand for the appointment of clergy in other settlements, especially the new ones, but it was impossible to satisfy most of those demands owing to a lack of means. The Mizrachi is assisted in its religious activity in the settlements by the Chief Rabbinate of Palestine, and recently a representative of the Vaad Leumi (Jewish National Council) assisted the Mizrachi in the drawing up of a scheme of work and. of a budget. 253
