Bukowina. The Zionist Federation of Bukowina has carried out intensive organisation work since the last Congress, and the result can be described as most gratifying. The Organisation has Zionist societies and representatives in 80 centres, who are in constant communication with our Central Office. There is a feeling of enthusiasm for Palestine at present throughout the Jewish population, of which the Federation has done its best to take advantage. Successful efforts have been made to organise most of the Zionists, particularly in Czernowitz, where there is a city organisation of the General Zionists. The Zionist Federation, which comprises the General Zionists in Bukowina, has become considerably stronger during the past two years despite the systematic agitation of the Revisionists, and it can be stated that a notable part of the Jewish population who previously held aloof from the movement, have now become members of our organisation. For the first time the Jewish artisans, especially in Czernowitz, have been organised on a General Zionist basis. Rural propaganda has been carried out entirely by honorary workers, especially by members of the Executive. Visiting speakers have included the following : Mr. Itzchak Gruenbaum, Nathan Bistritzky, Dr. S. Lowy, Dr. Benzion Mossinsohn, Eliezer- Kaplan, Dr. Fritz Ullman, Dr. Olswanger, Dr. Kontorszcyk, Ludwig Bato. Altogether about 1,000 Zionist meetings and lectures were held in Czernowitz and the provinces. The Ostjudische Zeitung has provided the printed propaganda. The daily press has also from time to time published Zionist articles and information placed at its disposal by the Zionist Executive. The Hebrew cultural work has made great progress in the past two years. Apart from the activity of the Association " Safah Ivriah," the Zionist Federation also co-operated in the arranging of Hebrew courses both in towns and rural centres. The information service of the organisation was carried on by means of a Bulletin, issued once a month to representatives in the towns and provinces. Since the last Congress, both the Keren Kayemeth and the Keren Hayesod can point to increased receipts, namely 80 per cent, and 50 per cent, respectively, despite the continued economic crisis. The activity of the Keren Kayemeth and the Keren Hayesod was furthered to a considerable degree by the organisation, and members of our Organisation have always occupied a leading position on both funds. The Chairman of the Keren Kayemeth is Dr. Th. Weisselberger, and the ex-Chairman of the Keren: Hayesod is Dr. Maximilian Zwilling. Reference may be made to the Arlosoroff campaign, which was 234
