never attained before, a fact which is proof that the roots of Zionism have struck among the Jewish masses. However, in 1934, a non-Congress year, the figure was considerably lower. It is hoped that in spite of the withdrawal of the Revisionists from the Zionist Organisation the Shekel campaign for 1935 will produce record results. Representing the Organisation in the Central Shekel Board are the General Secretary, A. Hofstaetter, as Chairman of the Board, and Messrs. Nichthauser and Schwartz as members. (■&) K.K.L. As against a decline in the income of the K.K.L. before the 18th Congress, it may be noted with satisfaction that the collections during the period under review have again improved. In 5692 the collections of the K.K.L. amounted to 127,331 Zlotv, in 5693 to 135,676, and in 5694 to 230,335. The increase in 5694 was largely due to the Ussishkin campaign mentioned above. The Chairman of the K.K.L. Board is a member of the Organisation, M. Lauterbach, and the Director of the Bureau,. M. Weisenfeld. (,c) K.H. The income of the Keren Hayesod has likewise increased, from 160,000 zl. in 5693, to 180,000 zl. in 5694. The pledges increased from 180,000 zl. to 217,000 zl. This increase in the income of the Zionist Funds at a time of economic depression is proof of the progress which the Zionist movement has made in the country. The Chairman of the Board of the K.H. in West Galicia is Dr. J. Thon, President of the Organisation. Mr. M. Finkelstein is Director of the Bureau, and Dr. Menasche Secretary. 6. Palestine Office.—In connection with the intensified emigration to Palestine, the Palestine Office extended the scope of its activities. Last year more than 600 emigrants of all categories (people with independent means, students, Chaluzim, category B,, German refugees, etc.), left for Palestine. The technical arrangements for the departure of the emigrants meet with many difficulties owing to the Palestine Office in Cracow being subordinated to that in Warsaw. According to a recent census there are in West Galicia at present 52 training groups, in which 2,350 Chaluzim are employed. At the head of the Palestine Office is Mr. Feldman, the Director of the Palestine Office is Dr. Hoffman, and the Secretary is Mr. A. Mendel. East Galicia. Since the last Congress our Organisation has grown considerably. The Zionist movement has spread to ever wider circles of the Jewish population, and there has been a great increase in the ranks, of both our older members and of the Youth Organisations. In accordance with our conception of general Zionism, that it should comprise all circles and sections of the Jewish people on the basis of its ideology, the members of our organisation 228
