Midland areas, and by Mr. L. Tager, who visited no fewer than seventy-three communities of the Sub-continent. These tours yielded abundant results. Special thanks are also due to the women of South Africa for their active collaboration and to Dr. Celina Sokolow. 8,906 donors contributed £145,000 in pledges, of which £16,074 were contributed by women. The number of donors as well as the amount in contributions far exceed the result of former campaigns. Pledges already due have been paid up almost in full. As in previous years, the Campaign was under the auspices of the Executive Council of the Zionist Federation. The Keren Hayesod Committee, under the Chairmanship of the Hon. Justice Greenberg, was enlarged for the duration of the Campaign by the co-option of a number of prominent personalities, a special Organisation Committee, headed by Mr. J. Alexander, Secretary of the Keren Hayesod, assisting its efforts at the height of the compaign. In the larger provincial centres local Committees had been specially formed for the direction of the campaign. Germany.—There were no changes in the composition of the Committee, which suffered a great loss in the passing of Mr. Oscar Wassermann, to which reference is made in another place. Dr. Michael Traub stands at the head of the Committee. Contributions in 1933 were a third higher than those in 1932, whilst 1934 showed a further increase of twenty-five per cent, over 1933. This increase is being maintained in the current year, notwithstanding the removal of many of our best collaborators and contributors to Eretz Israel. Great Britain.—In May, 1933, the English Keren Hayesod Committee, the English Zionist Federation and the non-Zionist representatives of the Jewish communities in England established the Central British Fund for German Jewry. The Keren Hayesod machinery was put at the disposal of this Fund, and Keren Hayesod activities proper were suspended. This arrangement was renewed for 1934 and 1935. The Keren Hayesod's share of the income in 1933 and 1934 amounted to £23,000 per annum. In 1935 it will be £28,000. Since next year's activities are to take the form of an independent Keren Hayesod campaign, the summer months will be taken up with preparations for this effort. Mr. Simon Marks is President, and Lady Erleigh Chairman of the Committee. Eretz Israel.—The beginning of 5694 marked a new epoch in Keren Hayesod activities in Eretz Israel. Dr. Alexander Goldstein took over the direction of the work in October 1933, and put it on an entirely new basis by adjusting it to local conditions and presentday requirements with three distinct sub-divisions : general campaign, Labour circles, and German immigrants. In the course of the past two years the Yishuv has been greatly developed and strengthened. The receipts of 5694 were double those of the preceding year, and the same ratio of increase applies to 5695. Palestine to-day stands in the front rank of contributing countries.
