Propaganda material has been sent abroad and placed with the most important shipping lines. Since the Bureau in its present form can no longer cope with the increased demands made upon it, it has been decided to enlarge the Jerusalem office and establish permanent branches in Haifa, Tel Aviv and Kantara. Keren Hayesod Central Committees. United States of America.—In the early part of 1934 the American Palestine Campaign associated itself with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee to form the United Jewish Appeal. This same partnership for fund-raising purposes has been continued for 1935. When the Central Bureau for the Settlement of German Jews was formed by the Jewish Agency, the American Palestine Campaign became its fund-raising representative in the United States. Funds raised in America since that time have been remitted to the Keren Hayesod for distribution between the Keren Hayesod and the Central Bureau, in accordance with a percentage agreement made at the Prague Congress and at subsequent negotiations. The National Conference for Palestine was held on January 20th, 1935, in Washington, where delegates from every important national Jewish organisation in America gathered to lend support to activity on behalf of Palestine. The American Palestine Campaign also helped to finance and direct the first annual Palestine Day on January 20th, 1935, which evoked an extraordinary response throughout the United States. The American Palestine Campaign Inc. is administered by a Board of Directors, whose Chairman is Mr. Louis Lipsky. The National Chairmen, as elected at a meeting in April, 1935, are James G. Becker, Chicago, William M. Lewis, Philadelphia, Louis Lipsky, New York, Morris Rothenberg, New York, Elihu D. Stone, Boston and Nathan Straus, New York. The Honorary Chairmen are Dr. Cyrus Adler, Governor Herbert H. Lehman, Judge Julian W. Mack, Felix M. Warburg, and Dr. Stephen S. Wise. The Treasurers are Jacob H. Cohen, Harry L. Glucksman and Abraham Liebovitz. Charles Ress is Secretary and Robert Silverman, Executive Director. South Africa.—Mr. Nahum Sokolow and Mr. Leib Jaffe stood at the head of the campaign of 1934, inaugurated on May 21st, 1934, by a banquet, in Johannesburg, under the Chairmanship of the Hon. Justice Greenberg, attended by General Smuts. Even prior to Mr. Sokolow's arrival, Benoni and Germiston had conducted successful Keren Hayesod campaigns. The wonderful success of the Campaign as a whole was to a large extent due to the brilliant efforts of the officials and voluntary workers. Special mention should be made of the motor tours undertaken by Mr. Joseph Herbstein, of Capetown, through the South West and 130
