and it is of particular interest tö ascertain from figures, in which groups the one or other of these two important suppliers to Palestine predominates. The following list clearly shows that the German export leads in a large number of important industrial porducts, whereas England supplies chiefly cotton and woollen goods of all kinds. I 18 6 9 4 23 7 An important factor for judging the proportionate competition on the Palestine market is undoubtedly the home industrialization of that country inspired by the jewish development and greatly assisted particulary during last year. It is scarcely to be assumed that the consumption of the market car\ be fully met by the home products in the near future because the further anticipated progressive immigration and the improvement in the Standard of Irving will increase the demand for fmished products and articles of consumption far beyond the productive capacity of a young industry built up by the middle classes. In any case, however, the exporter will have to reckon with the tendency and particularly with the necessarily resultant changing over of the imports into Palestine from fmished products to productive means, raw materials and half fmished products. We will revert to the results of the industrialization of Palestine in a subsequent article. •) The following stafistics are based on the figures of 1932 as the detailed impori sta-is'ics of Palestine for 1933 are nof yet a^ailable. These figures are, howe/er, typical for the existing relative cempetition between England and Germany, and in spife of the considerable increase of the imports in the year > 1933 in the individual groups, the proportions will scarcely have changed considerably The writer has already given detailed report concerning the exparjsion of the German exporf in the year 1933 as compared with 1932 ("Palestine as cusfomer of the German Industry", PN. No. 1). Nr. 1). 2
