Belasco has earned the thanks not only of those interested in Mediaeval Hebrew literature but also of those interested in the history and customs of the Catholic Church. The text of this pofeinic treats of many subjects not usually foünd in Hebrew sources, and the editor is quite right in saying ״that the idterest of the parody lies neither in controversy nor in polemic but solely in its literary and historical aspects* Xp• iii•)•; But for this yery reason we feel justified in saying that the editor häs done only half his duty. He has put the text within reach of eyery Student but he has not even attempied to make the text intelligible where it is obscure or to cofrect where the scribe ha.8 ,erred, nor in general tP expläin the literary and historical allusions which abound on eyery page. Furthermore* in the case oi so obscure an authpr as Jonah Rappa, we have a right to expect that in the first book ever published under his namp^ we would find some införmation regarding his life and times. At least the little that is already available should have been reproduced if not enlarged upon., It *) ö. S. Belasco, סלסול על זמן וממם זסמהם .מיוחס לר' יונא דסא... bondon!008 8° IV u. 88 p.
