Eine Antwort erbitte ich an mich oder an die 1. Red. der ZfflB. M. Steinschneider. Miseellen. A Note on the Jews in Brazil. In ZfflB. VI p. 90, Mr. G. A. Kohut gives some further data in regard to the Jews of Brazil. It may be well in this direction to recall the fact, that a few yearsago a Hebrew manuscript was brought to Enrope frcm Brazil, from which Zenner printed some Arabic Piyyutim (ZDMG., XLIX, 560). According to Zenner, the Codex was gotten in Uruguayna on the Island of Fanfa (Rio Jacuhy) and came to Europe through the agency of the Bishop of Porto Alegre. Zenner thought that the manuscript was of the 16th Century, but Kauffmann (ibid L, 234,) gives the correct date in which the manuscript was written as 1814. Still it is interesting to know that a Morocco Hebrew manuscript has wandered all the way to Brazil and back again to Europe. Speaking of Brazil, it might be well also to recall the fact that almost in the farthest west of that country, on the Madaleine River, a tributary of the Amazon, there still exists a small community of Portuguese Jews. TKey live in Manicorä in the department of Amazonas. Having heard, last year, of the Zionist movement, they sent a money contribution, and expressed their great interest in its doings, (see, ״Die Welt“ V,. No. 22, p. 2). This year, the Colony has sent a similar sum and for the same purpose (״Die Welt“ 1902, No 4*2, p. 7). ZfflB. III, 126), von dem im Jahre 1629 Radices S. hebr. Biblicis moralibus sententiis, adagiis etc., und 1668 ein Manuale Hebraeo- Chald. Lat. Belgiern» erschien, ist auch der Verfasser eines ״Kleinen Juden Katechismus, d. i. christlicher Bericht von dem Messia, wie derselbe nach seiner Zukunft, Person und Amt in den Schriften Mosis und der Propheten .. . beschrieben“ (Cassel 1650). Was Curtius zur Abfassung dieses Schriftcheas veranlasste, erfahren wir aus einem handschriftlichen Briefe, den er, während dasselbe in Cassel gedruckt wurde, von Cassel aus am 10. Dezember 1650 an Joh. Buxtorf in Basel schrieb. In diesem Briefe heisst es: ... Apud nos
