100 in the middle of the 25th out of the 37 principles of interpretation which Qirqisäni laid down for himself. For references to Earkavy and Bacher on this subject see Pozn. p. 196. II) With regard to the contents of Or. 2492, it. ougth to be "T observed that the fragment of the Commentary on פרשת נח is notn a מנתצר like that on בראשית, but the longer recension itself. It indeed appears to me that Qirqisäni only prepared a מכתצר for the first pericope of Genesis. I will, however, quote a part of the introduction prefixed to פ׳ בראשית, in order to enable students to form their own judgement on this point: אני בעד מא פרצת מן תאליף היא אלכתאב סי מעאני אלתוריה אלתי הי ציר אלפראי^ חאמלת מא עמלתה פי בראשית פוצדתה טוילא" נדא ואני קד אכתרת פי אלכלאם פי אלמעאני אלעקליה ואלפלספיה . . . פראית אן אנתצר ילך ... ליסהל הלך עלי אלקארי איא אראד אן יחפ&ה ונאצה למן ינטב בילך עלי אלנאס פי אלמגאלם וכד. The reason for the מנתצר was, therefore, the large amount of philosophical matter that was contained in the fuller commentary on בראשית, and as the pericope rather than the Book of that name may be expecied to have received a special philosophic treatment, one is inclined to assume that the מנתצר was confined to the same pericope. The colophon on fol. 54 b, in fact, begins:' היא מנתצר תפסיר פרשת בראשית, the word פרשת heving accidently fallen out from Dr. Poznanski's quotation (p. 214). The heading of the Commentary on פרשת נח, on the other hand, begins: אלצזו אלתאני מן ספר בראשית מן כתאב אלריאץ ואלחדאיק, the term מנתצר not being used at all. III) ln addition to Dr. Poznanski’s interesting information on ״Arabische Citato aus dem Kitäb-al-’anwäru, the Brit. Mus. Mss. ( Or. 2498 and 2576 should be mentioned. The former Codex (Descriptive List, p. 23) contains a Commentary on Deuteronomy, compiled and abridged from the works of Qirqisäni, Abu ‘Ali, Abual-Sari, Abu-al-Faraj Eärun, Abu-al-Faraj Furqän, and others. In this Ms. Qirqisäni is quoled on fifteen different pages; and in Or. 2576 11 (foll. 16—56), containing a fragment in the Arabic character, of a work on Leviticus, two references to the צאחב כתאב אלאנואר are found. IV) Lastly I will note that besides the portions given by Dr. Poznanski on pp. 199, 200 and 211, Or. 2524 also contains Ch. 20 and a portion of Ch. 24 of the כתאב אלאנואר, Book III., and that Chs. 39 and 40 of Book VI. are preserved complete in the same Ms. גר
