ШАПИРО Исраэль (1882, Сейны Сувалкской губ. – 1957, Израиль), библиограф, востоковед. Род. в семье раввина и публициста Тувьи-Пейсаха (1845–1924). Получил традиц. еврейское религ. образование, учился в иешиве, в Страсбургском ун-те и Высш. еврейской школе (Леранштальт) в Берлине. В 1907–10 преподавал в Учительском ин-те в Иерусалиме, в 1911–13 – в Нью-Йорке, принимал участие в издании газ. «Га-Дрор». В 1913–44 возглавлял вновь созданный Семитский сектор Б-ки Конгресса США, систематизировал коллекцию из 40 000 т., включая инкунабулы и др. раритеты.
