Yekhil MATATOV (1888, Derbent, Dagestan region - 1943, Komi ASSR), public and statesman, linguist. In 1908-10 - in the army. From 1914 - at the front, in 1915-17 in Austrian captivity, from 1917 in Petrograd, a participant in Oct. Revolution and Grazhd. war. Affairs. 10th Congress of the RCP (b). In 1921 - 1937 in Dagestan (prosecutor, people's commissar of justice, secretary of the president of the Supreme Soviet of the DagASSR). In the 1920s. translated into lang. mountain Jews of the party. lit-ru. In 1928 he founded Gas. "Zakhmetkesh" (in the language of Mountain Jews). Ed. M. ed. Vertreter der Gruppe, die den proselytisierenden Ursprung der Bergjuden verteidigen. Autor pl. publ. zu diesem Thema, einschließlich "On the Tatsky ethnos" ("Sov. Ethnography", 1981, Nr. 5). В 1921 – 1937 в Дагестане (прокурор, нарком юстиции, секр. през. ВС ДагАССР). В 1920-х гг. переводил на яз. горских евреев парт. лит-ру. В 1928 основал газ. «Захметкеш» (на яз. горских евреев).
