ДИМАНШТЕЙН Семен (Шимон) Маркович (1886, Себеж Витебской губ. – 1937), гос. и парт, деятель, публицист, чл. Коммунистич. партии с 1904. Получил традиц. евр. образование, в 18 лет сдал экзамен на звание раввина. С нач. 1900-х гг. участник рев. движения, работал в подпольных типографиях в Вильне и Москве, перевел на иврит и идиш Программу РСДРП, автор ряда листовок. Участник рев. событий 1905–07. В 1907 чл. Рижского к-та РСДРП. В 1909 Рижским врем. воен. судом приговорен к 4 годам каторги (отбывал в Саратовском централе), затем сослан в Сибирь, откуда в 1913 бежал, вскоре уехал из России, чл. Парижской большевист. гр. После Февр. рев-ции вернулся в Россию, работал в воен. орг-циях Риги. После окт. 1917 чл. Коллегии Наркомтруда. В янв. 1918 возглавил Евр. комиссариат при Наркомнаце, созд. и ред. первой в Сов. России газ. на идише – «Ди вархайт» (затем – «Дер эмес»). С окт. 1918 пред. Евр. секции, автор ряда работ по истории евр. рабочего движения в России. В июле 1919 изд. циркуляр о закрытии правлений евр. общин и их учреждений. Весной 1919 – нарком труда Литовско-Белорус. сов. респ., чл. ЦК КП Литвы и Белоруссии. В 1920–21 нарком просвещения Туркестанской АССР. В 1922–24 нач. Главполитпросвета Украины. С 1924 в аппарате ЦК ВКП(б), зав. его нац. сектором. В 1930 выступил против политики сплошной коллективизации в нац. р-нах и получил парт. взыскание. С 1930 дир.
