SALANT Shmuel (1816, in der Nähe von Bialystok, Provinz Grodno - 1909, Jerusalem), Rabbiner. Er studierte an den Jeschiwas von Salantow, Woloschin, Wilna. Ab 1840 - in E.-I. Vertrauter von M. Montefiore in Fragen. Jüdische Kolonisation durch E.-I. Seit 1841 der Rabbiner der "litauischen" Gemeinde von Jerusalem. Er gründete das Etz Haim Yeshiva und das Bikur Holim Hospital. In 1878-1909 Ch. Rabbiner der aschkenasischen Gemeinde von Jerusalem. Er trug zum Bau jüdischer Viertel außerhalb der Mauern der Altstadt bei.

Jewish colonization by E.-I. Since 1841, the rabbi of the "Lithuanian" community of Jerusalem. He founded the Etz Chaim yeshiva and the Bikur Holim hospital. In 1878-1909 ch. rabbi of the Ashkenazi community of Jerusalem. He contributed to the construction of Jewish quarters outside the walls of the Old City.

Доверенное лицо М.Монтефиоре по вопр. еврейской колонизации Э.-И. С 1841 раввин «литовской» общины Иерусалима. Основал иешиву «Эц Хаим» и больницу «Бикур Холим». В 1878–1909 гл. раввин ашкеназийской общины Иерусалима. Содействовал стр-ву еврейских кварталов вне стен Старого города.
