Jurist, Soziologe und Gemeindefunktionär, geb. 24.4.1912 Bernburg (Anhalt), gest. 8.1.1978 Frankfurt a. M.S. wuchs in Bernburg auf, wo er das Humanistische Gymnasium besuchte; er studierte von 1930 bis 1934 in Halle und Leipzig Rechtswissenschaften. Bereits in jungen Jahren war er zionistisch und linkssozialistisch engagiert. 1934 schloss er sein Studium mit der Promotion ab; das Staatsexamen abzulegen wurde ihm verwehrt. 1934 bis 1936 war er in der Papierwarenfabrik seines Vaters beschäftigt. 1938/39 arbeitete er in Stettin als Bezirksfürsorger der Zentralwohlfahrtsstelle der deutschen Juden.
