In spite of the unsuitable buildings in which the central Hadassah hospital of Jerusalem is housed, the management succeeded in introducing various improvements and in enlarging its capacity. By partial reconstruction of some of the buildings it became possible to increase the number of beds in the maternity wards from fourteen to thirty, and in the gynaecological ward from six to sixteen beds. This improvement relieved slightly the excessive pressure from patients demanding accommodation. These two departments as well as the departments dealing with cancer and skin diseases have undergone considerable improvement. The great scheme for constructing new buildings for the Rothschild Hospital, which will serve together with its subsidiary sections as the University hospital, is nearing completion. It was definitely decided to erect the new buildings near the University on Mount Scopus. The final plans are in process of completion and funds are being raised in the United States and in Palestine. 418
