Hachshara, which now comes under the WIZO's auspices, will be developed until such time as the Jewish Agency will take action in the general question. Organisation. During the period under review the membership of the WIZO has grown to over 60,000. Interest in the WIZO and its programme on the Continent and Overseas has become more and more widespread, new groups having been formed in Algiers, Alexandria, Australia (Adelaide and Melbourne), Mukden and Stockholm. Contacts with other Zionist organisations have been steadily maintained. Particular mention should be made of the WIZO's relationship to the Jewish Agency, which is expressed through the formation of the Co-operation Committee. This Committee was formed in the Autumn of 1933 and is composed of representatives of the Jewish Agency and of the WIZO London Executive. Its function is to provide the opportunity for the discussion of questions of mutual interest which have a fundamental bearing on practical work, with particular reference to problems affecting the settlement and training of women and girls in Palestine. The meetings of the Co-operation Committee dealt with the classification of the questions of Hachshara and Aliyah and the legal representation of the WIZO in the Agency. In regard to the latter, however, it has been shown that such representation was not possible on constitutional grounds as long as the WIZO did not form an organic part of the Jewish Agency. The Vlllth WIZO Conference, having taken cognisance of this conclusion, passed a resolution instructing its Executive to negotiate with the Executive of the Jewish Agency with the object of securing the representation of the WIZO on a special basis, so that an organisation of the numerical strength of the WIZO may have the right to vote in the principal bodies, even if not representing any political tendency. The significance of the Keren Hayesod for the upbuilding of the National Home has entered so strongly into the consciousness of the WIZO, that co-operation between the WIZO and the Keren Hayesod continued to be carried out in a most harmonious manner in. all countries. The members of the WIZO are always prepared to give their assistance whenever called upon to do so in the campaigns of the Keren Hayesod, while the delegates of the Keren Haysod have used every endeavour to help to form new WIZO groups in the countries they visit. In this way a new reservoir of strength has been created for the Keren Hayesod amongst women. The Resolutions of the recent Vlllth WIZO Conference have made provision for the intensification of the sale of Shekalim and for still closer co-operation between the two bodies. With regard to the Keren Kayemeth, during the period under review, there has been co-operation to a greater extent between the two Organisations in the field of written propaganda. A special 263
