New Settlements on J.N.P. Land. Of the new agricultural settlements on J.N.F. land during the last two years, mention may be made of the following : (a) " Kfar Pines," established by a group of fifty families of " Hapoel Hamizrachi," at Wadi Ara on the border of Karkur, on a tract of 1,000 dunams; (b) a group of fifty-five families of workers at Karkur, members of the Histadruth; (c) Kvutzah " Mishmaroth " at Karkur has been founded; (d) near Petach- Tikvah preparations are being made for the establishment of a settlement to be called " Kfar Maimoni." The settlers, who number fifty families, are immigrants from Germany and each will receive 5 dunams as a small agricultural holding; (<?) next to " Kfar Maimoni " another settlement is being established on similar principles, of 150 families, workers of Petach-Tikvah. II. Amelioration Work. Drainage of Swamps. During the period under review the J.N.F. continued to exercise sanitary supervision over the drainage system in Emek Hepher and Emek Zebulun. Certain investigations were also made in regard to the drainage of the Naamen swamps, northern Emek Zebulun. No new drainage works were undertaken. III. Water Supply. During the period under review the J.N.F. was responsible for various schemes. At Tel Adashim a water-tower was erected, pipes laid and motor house built. The settlement obtains a supply of forty to forty-five cubic metres per hour, something as yet unusual in this part of Emek Jezreel. In Ginegar the search for water still proceeds. Boring operations are continuing and it is hoped that during the course of the year the water problem will be solved here. In Sedeh Jacob (Sheikh Abrek) water has been discovered at a depth of 108 metres and there is the possibility of obtaining about fifteen cubic metres per hour, a quantity which is sufficient to provide water for drinking and domestic purposes, and also for irrigating the vegetable gardens adjoining the houses. In Karkur (Hapoel Hamizrachi) the construction of a large reservoir with a capacity of 900 cubic metres in order to provide water for Kfar Pines has been begun. At Hulda boring operations were undertaken, but so far without result. A second series of boring operations is about to be completed, which it is hoped will be successful. A grant was allocated for boring at the Ben Shemen School. IV. Afforestation. The areas afforested and number of trees planted during the period under review reveal an increase over the previous period. During the years 5694 and 5695 a total of 295,172 trees were planted 168
