During the period of the previous report, the Central Bureau derived considerable income from special drives held in various countries, such as America, South Africa, Egypt, Australia and the Argentine, but in the last two years such campaigns were not held. On the other hand, the Council for German Jewry was established in the winter of 1935/36 and its allocations, with the participation of the Jewish Agency and the special campaigns for youth immigration, constituted almost the whole of the means placed at the disposal of the Central Bureau. The budget of the Council for German Jewry allocated for Palestine work during 1936 was the following : LP. Immigration and colonisation of 1,500 agriculturists—LP.100 per head .. 150,000 Immigration and training of 1,000 young immigrants — LP.60 per head...... 60,000 Credits to artisans and middle-class families 40,000 Total 250,000 This budget was covered as follows : Campaign of Council for German Jewry . . 173,500 Keren Hayesod . . . . ....... 50,000 Jewish National Fund .. ....... 25,000 Joint Distribution Committee ...... 1,500 Total 250,000 This budget was disbursed during the period under review, except for an amount of LP.26,500. In April, 1937, the Council for German Jewry decided upon a new Palestine budget, which contains the following items : LP.
