VII. 1679 ifl veröffentlicht in den beiden in Anmerkung 6 genannten Werken jujd_ Ollion auf S. 45 bezw. S. 28. 21 Thomas Birch: The life of Robert Boyle (London 1744) S. oöff. n Bekannt und von Abrahams abgedruckt ift der Brief Oldenburgs an Boyle vom 18. Der betreffende PafTus aus diefem in Boyles Works (London 1744 Vol. 5 S. 383; London 1772 Vol. 6 S. 266) abgedruckten Brief lautet wie folgt: Since I wrote this, I was visited by R. Abendana, who shewed me a letter from his brdther now at Oxford, mentioning, that you hat expressed to him your wondering at m\ not taking notice of the catalogue of Hebrew books, brought over by the said Abendana to be sold herc. I was surprised to hear this, who, if I am not extremely mistaken,. mentioned in my very last that -busineß to you, expressing, how I had endeavoured to recommend it to Dr. Barlow here in London, and making it my request to you to assist in it, as much as your conveniency would permit. It is true, before I was spoken to by the Rabbi, I was silent of it in my letters to you; but that was upon the consideration of your manifold other engagements, which I thuught would not suffer you to mcddle with books of that nature, as for your own use; and as far as it might concern the publick usc of the university, I judged, Dr. Barlow was morc in the way of doing good in this matter, than any body, I know, of the university. This day the said Abendana entreats you, that, if you choosc any books out of this catalogue, you would send, as soon as you can, your order for it, to leave them cither with me, or some other person, you shall think (it; bccause he is necessitated within a fortnight to-return to Amsterdam. Sir, if you please, to look only into my last letter, you will there find, I did»really recommend to you this affair. s3 Diefer Brief Oldenburgs an Spinoza ift veröffentlicht in der Ausgabe von Spinozas Werken von van Vloten und Land (Ed. 3 Haag 1914) T. 3 S. 125, fowie in dem vonH. Ginsbergherausgcgebencn Bricfwechfel Spihozas (Leipzig 1876) S. 48.
