- קורא "להניח את החרבות". "הזניחו ולא תעלו ולא תילחמו השיבוה אלי תערה... בכו עמי למיתתו ואל תחרישו והילילו ליום צרה ואל תדומו". "נתיב עשה וגם דרך בים החכמה." בנוסף לשיר הקינה, ישנו בעקבותיו דיון על ענייני דיקדוק ומליצה, כולל נימוקים לבחירות שעשה בשימוש המילים. הוא סותר דברים של מדקדקים קודמים, כגון זלמן הענא וכותב: "כל מקום שיצא ר' זלמן הנ"ל או אחרים כמוהו לידון בדבר החדש ולחדש גזיקרו'....ובכח דקדוקם להסירן מגבירות, ולשום תחתיהן אחרות, אין לשמוע אליהם רק להשליכן על פני החוץ והיו לברו." לעומת זאת, משבח את דעותיו של ר' יעקב עמדן באותם נושאים.

- שלמה דובנא מציין בהקדמתו כי היה עסוק בכתיבת תשובה לאגרת מאת ר' עמדן כאשר נודע לו על מותו. בשומעו על כך, "נחם לבי בקרבי ויהי למים ומלאו מתני חלחלה. אמרתי תנחמני ארשי ארשת שפתי בל אמנע... לקונן עליו בקול נהי ויללה".
