ВЕРХОВСКИЙ Илья Моисеевич (1891, Елисаветград Херсонской губ. – 1966, Москва), специалист по обогащению полезных ископаемых. Д-р техн. наук (1947). В 1917 окончил Королевскую горн. школу в Великобритании. С 1931 – проф. Моск. горн. ин-та, затем зав. кафедрой обогащения полезных ископаемых. Организовал науч. иссл. по гравитац. процессам обогащения углей и руд, начиная с 50-х гг. – с применением радиоактивных изотопов. Создал науч. школу по матем. моделированию процессов гравитац. обогащения, расчету и проектированию углеобогатит. ф-к. За создание и внедрение новых машин для классификации и обезвоживания углей удостоен Стал. пр.
