Работал преподавателем, а затем проф. евр. лит-ры Бруклинского колледжа в Нью-Йорке. С 1929 регулярно публиковал рассказы и очерки в период. изд. на иврите. Его ром. «Сумерки в Кэтскиллс» (1957) и др. описывают жизнь евр. иммигрантов в США и их трудное приспособление к новому окружению.
