С 1963 начал работать как театр. худож. Первая пост. – бал. «Тропою грома» на муз. К.Караева в Гос. т-ре оп. и бал. им. А.Айни (Душанбе). Всего оформил более 120 спектаклей, в т. ч. в 1960-е гг. – «Лебединое озеро» П.И.Чайковского (Т-р оп. и бал. им. Абая, Алма-Ата), «Травиата» Дж.Верди (Горьковский т-р оп. и бал. им. А.С.Пушкина), оп-ты «Роза ветров» на муз. Б.А.Мокроусова (Петрозаводский муз. т-р), «Вольный ветер» (Одесский т-р муз. комедии); в 1970-е гг. – кукольные спектакли для взрослых: «Мадемуазель Нитуш» (Львовский т-р кукол), «Улыбнись, Айхон» (Ташкентский т-р кукол). У. – худож.-пост. новогоднего елочного представления в Кремлевском Дворце съездов «Пусть звезды мирно светят», 1985). В 1990 оформил спектакли «Солдат Иван Чонкин», «Роковые яйца» (Мичуринский т-р драмы). В 1995 принимал участие в созд. Пуримшпиля (Москва, на сцене Центр. дет. т-ра). У. – автор ряда сценариев сатирич. киножурн. «Фитиль», юмористич. стих., пародий, эпиграмм. С 1989 гл. худож. Моск. еврейского т-ра «Шалом», оформил спектакли «Заколдованный театр» (1990), «Танец маленьких бронштейнов» (1991), «Поезд за счастьем» (1992). Рис. У. включены в сб. «106 современных карикатуристов мира» (Дом юмора и сатиры, Габрово, 1980). Участник 34 междунар. выставок. Персональные выставки – в Москве (1980 и две – 1996).
