СВЕРДЛОВ Евгений Давидович (р. 1938, Днепропетровск), биохимик. Д-р хим. наук, акад. РАН (1997). В 1961 окончил МГУ, там же работал до 1965. В 1965–88 – в Ин-те химии природных соединений АН СССР (с 1974 – Ин-т биоорганич. химии). С 1988 дир. Ин-та молекулярной генетики АН СССР. Обл. науч. иссл. – молекулярная генетика, структура и функции нуклеиновых кислот. Предложил принципы иссл. первичной структуры ДНК (1972). Установил (совм. с Ю.А.Овчинниковым) структуры генов, кодирующих бактериальные РНК-полимеразы (1981 – 86), структуры генов, кодирующих натрий и калий аденозинтрифосфатазы (АТФ) живых организмов, в т. ч. человека. Обнаружил множественность генов АТФ и тканеспецифичность их экспрессии (1987). Одноврем. (с 1977) проводил иссл. в обл. генной инженерии. Клонировал гены, кодирующие интерферон человека, и получил штаммы этих соединений, что послужило основой для создания пром. произ-ва. Руководил работами по созданию противовирусных вакцин.
