В 1917 в партии с.-д. интернационалистов. Участник Гражд. войны, военком бригады, зам. нач. политотдела дивизии. В 1925 окончил Харьковский технол. ин-т. В 1930–32 техн. дир. з-да «Турбинострой». В 1932–33 зав. энергобюро и уполномоченный НКТП СССР в Берлине. В 1934–35 дир. Индустриального ин-та в Новочеркасске, одноврем. зав. кафедрой теплотехники там же. В 1935–37 зам. нач. Главного управления уч. заведениями НКТП СССР. В 1937–46 зав. кафедрой теплотехники МИХМ (в 1941–43 филиала в Чарджоу), одноврем. в 1943–46 преподавал в МАИ. В 1944–79 – в МАМИ, на кафедре теплотехники (с 1967 кафедра транспортных газотурбинных двигателей), в 1946–50, 1954–68 зав. кафедрой. Автор св. 60 науч. работ и учебника «Общая теплотехника» (М., 1961, в соавт. с Б.А.Богдасаровым).Сын Ш. – Евгений (1941, Москва – 1995, там же), актер, режиссер.
