Окончил мед. ф-т Новороссийского ун-та в Одессе (1922). Работал в Севастополе, Харькове, Духовщине (Смоленская обл.), Евпатории. С 1932 – в Казани, в КИДУВе. В 1937–71 зав. кафедрой травматологии и ортопедии КИДУВа. Одноврем. в 1945–60 организатор и дир. НИИ травматологии и ортопедии Минздрава РСФСР в Казани. В 1941–45 гл. хирург госпиталей. Осн. темы науч. иссл.: лечение переломов трубчатых костей, вопр. лечения костных опухолей, классификация, диагностика и лечение сколиоза. Ш. разработал аппарат для лечения переломов костей ниж. конечности. Автор 210 науч. работ, в т. ч. монографий «Боковое искривление позвоночника у детей (сколиоз)» (Казань, 1963), «Вопросы клинико-рентгенологич. диагностики закрытых переломов костей» (Казань, 1965, в соавт. с Д.Е.Гольдштейном). Ш. организовал и возглавил Об-во травматологов и ортопедов ТАССР, чл. правления Всес. и Всерос. об-в травматологоортопедов, чл. ред. совета журн. «Ортопедия, травматология и протезирование», «Казанского мед. журнала», Всемирн. орг-ции ортопедов и травматологов (СИКОТ).
