С 1921 – во Франции. Работал в обл. книжной и станк. графики, в т. ч. как карикатурист. Среди кн., оформленных Ш.: «Книга Эстер» (1923–24), стихи Ю.Тувима и М.Бродерзона. Созданная Ш. серия миниатюр, посв. амер. рев-ции 1861–77, была подарена польск. правительством през. Франклину Рузвельту. В нач. 2-й мир. войны Ш. некоторое время жил в Великобритании, где выполнял сатирические рисунки для прессы. Карикатуры Ш. на нацистов собраны в кн. «Новый порядок» (1941). С 1939 – в США. Хорошие знания традиций еврейского иск-ва, в частности еврейской средневековой миниатюры, Ш. органично применил в оформлении Декларации независимости Государства Израиль (1948). War Sh. lived for some time in Great Britain, where he made satirical drawings for the press. Sh. Cartoons on the Nazis are collected in the book. The New Order (1941). Since 1939 - in the USA.
