ШИФРИН Кусиель Шлемович (Соломонович) (р. 1918, Мстиславль Могилевской губ.), геофизик. Д-р физ.-матем. наук (1951), проф. (1955). Брат Я.С.Шифрина. В 1940 окончил физ. ф-т ЛГУ. Ученик Я.И.Френкеля. В 1943–45 – в армии. В 1946–69 – в Гл. геофиз. обсерватории им. А.И.Воейкова, зав. лаб. радиац. процессов в атмосфере. С 1969 – в Ленингр. отд-нии Ин-та океанологии АН СССР, зав. лаб. оптики океана. С 1940 преподавал в вузах Ленинграда, Казани, Москвы. Первые науч. тр. – в обл. электронной теории тв. тел: провел основополагающее иссл. электрич. свойств хорошо проводящих полупроводников. С 1946 начал заниматься проблемами оптики. Разработал методику изучения атмосферы и океана приборами, установленными на искусств. спутниках Земли. Глава науч. школы оптики атмосферы и океана. Автор ок. 350 науч. работ и неск. моногр., в т. ч. «Рассеяние света в мутной среде» (М.–Л., 1951), «Физ. оптика океанской воды» (Л., 1983).
