СЕМКОВСКИЙ (наст. фам. Бронштейн) Семен Юльевич (1882, Могилев – 1937), политический деятель, социолог. Акад. АН УССР (1929). С нач. 1900-х гг. участник с.-д. движения, один из теоретиков меньшевизма по нац. вопросу. Чл. Загран. Секретариата ОК меньшевиков, сотр. журн. «Луч», «Наше слово» и др. В 1917 чл. Предпарламента. К Окт. рев-ции отнесся отрицательно. С 1920 занимался науч. и преподават. деятельностью в Ин-те нар. х-ва, педагогическом и др. вузах Харькова. Пред. философско-социол. отд. Укр. ин-та марксизма, пред. Социол. комиссии ВУАН. Чл. ВУЦИК. Автор работ по истории философии, ист. материализму. Первым в России попытался истолковать философские аспекты теории относительности.
