В 1957–64 – в Малом т-ре оперы и балета, в 1963–72 – в Ленингр. т-ре оперы и балета им. С.М.Кирова. Гл. роли в бал. «Горянка» М.М.Кажлаева и «Гамлет» Н.П.Червинского. В 1972 П. и его жена балерина Г.Рагозина обратились за выездной визой в Израиль, за что были изгнаны из труппы. В 1974 П. добился разрешения покинуть СССР. Поставил в Немецкой опере (Берлин) бал. «Золушка» С.С.Прокофьева (1977), «Весна священная» И.Ф.Стравинского (1978), «Идиот» Д.Д.Шостаковича (1979), «Война и мир» Прокофьева (1981).
