МЕРКОВ Аркадий Михайлович (1899, Новоселье Тульской губ. – 1971, Москва), ученый в области медицинской статистики и социальной гигиены. Д-р мед. наук (1946), проф. (1933). Окончил Харьковский мед. ин-т (1923), был зав. Старобельским, а затем Винницким окр. отд. здравоохранения, в 1929–30 инспектор Наркомздрава УССР. С 1933 зав. кафедрой орг-ции здравоохранения и сан. статистики Харьковского мед. ин-та, а затем зав. такой же кафедрой Харьковского ин-та усовершенствования врачей; одноврем. (1929–41) зав. отд. соц. патологии злокачеств. новообразований Укр. онколог. ин-та, с 1938 дир. Н.-и. бюро сан. статистики. В 1941–43 в Уфе, с 1943 – в Москве. В 1943–49 нач. отд. мед. статистики Минздрава СССР и одноврем. зав. кафедрой сан. статистики ЦИУВ. В 1955–63 зав. отд. сан. статистики НИИ соц. гигиены и орг-ции здравоохранения в Москве. М. один из зачинателей и организаторов онколог, статистики в стране.
