МАРГОЛИС Макс Леопольд (1866, Меречь Трокского у. Виленской губ. – 1932), филолог. Д-р философии (1891), проф. (1897). Род. в семье раввина Ицхока М. (1842–1887), автора неск. кн. и ст. в «Гамелиц» и «Га-Цефира». Окончил Лейбницевскую гимназию в Берлине, в 1891 Колумбийский ун-т. В 1892–97 преподавал в Хибру Юнион колледже в Цинциннати. В 1897 – 1905 проф. семитских яз. и лит-ры в Калифорнийском ун-те. В 1905–07 руководил кафедрой библейской экзегезы в Хибру Юнион колледже. Гл. ред. перевода ТАНАХа для Еврейского издат. об-ва Америки. С 1909 проф. Колледжа им. Дропси в Филадельфии. С 1922 редактировал «Джорнел оф зе Америкэн Ориентал Сесайти».
