КУЛИШЕР Михаил Игнатьевич (1847, Софиевка Луцкого у. Волынской губ. – 1919, Петроград), этнограф, историк, общественный деятель. Племянник Р.М.Кулишера. Учился в раввинском уч-ще в Житомире и в Каменец-Подольской гимназии. Окончил юрид. ф-т Петерб. ун-та (1872). Со 2-й пол. 1860-х гг. сотрудничал в журн. «Искра», газ. «День» (Одесса), «С.-Петерб. ведомости» и др. В 1879 один из создателей и фактич. ред. еврейского журн. «Рассвет». В 1880 ред. газ. «Правда» (Одесса), в 1880–86 издавал в Киеве газ. «Заря». С 1876 публиковал ст. по истории евреев, этнографии, антропологии, истории права в журн. «Слово», «Восход», «Рус. мысль», «Вестник Европы», «Рус. богатство» и др., а также в нем. науч. журн. В ранней работе «Жизнь Иисуса – легенда» (1876, на нем. яз.) выступил с критич. разбором евангельских текстов. Один из основателей Еврейского ист.-этногр. об-ва (1908), в его печатном органе журн. «Еврейская старина» поместил ст. «Польша с евреями и Русь без евреев» (1910), «История рус. законодательства о евреях в связи с системой взимания налогов и отбывания повинностей» (1910) и др. В ист. тр. К. уделял много внимания проблеме отношения разл. народов к евреям, полагал, что в основе этого отношения – вопрос экономич. выгоды, к-рую можно было извлечь из евреев.
