КОГАН-БЕРНШТЕЙН Матвей Львович (1886, Дерпт Лифляндской губ. – 1918, Черный Затон Сызранского у. Симбирской губ.), политический деятель. Сын Л.М.Когана-Бернштейна. Окончил гимназию в Красноярске; с 7-го класса участвовал в рев. кружке. В 1904 поселился в Германии. В 1909 окончил Гейдельбергский ун-т, затем защитил док. дис. Работал в загран. гр. партии эсеров (ПСР), выезжал в Россию (окончательно вернулся в 1909). Накануне 1-й мир. войны возглавлял орг-цию ПСР в Ростове-на-Дону. В 1914 арестован и выслан в Воронеж. Осенью 1916 призван в армию, в янв. 1917 по болезни демобилизован. После Февр. рев. 1917 возглавил Воронежский губком ПСР, гласный гор. думы и деп. Воронежского Совета. Делегат 3-го съезда ПСР. В июне делегат 1-го Всерос. съезда Советов; чл. ВЦИК. В авг.-сент. пред. Воронежского Совета. В сер. нояб. избран в Учредит. собрание. Являясь противником большевиков, отвергал вооруж. борьбу с ними. С янв. 1918 ред. журн. ЦК ПСР «Парт, известия», делегат 3-го и 4-го Всерос. съездов Советов; чл. ВЦИК. Постановлением ВЦИК от 14.6.1918 лишен депутатского мандата. В авг. нелегально перешел на терр. Комуча. Выступал с критикой правых в ПСР, отстранен от работы в ЦК (по др. сведениям, сам вышел из ЦК). В сент. демонстративно покинул Уфимское гос. совещание, взявшее курс на свержение сов. власти. In 1909 he graduated from Heidelberg University, then defended the dock. dis. He worked abroad. gr. Party of Socialist-Revolutionaries (AKP), went to Russia (finally returned in 1909). On the eve of the 1st world. war headed the organization of the AKP in Rostov-on-Don. In 1914 he was arrested and exiled to Voronezh. In the fall of 1916 he was drafted into the army, in January. 1917 demobilized due to illness.
