ХАЙКИН Семен Эммануилович (1901, Минск – 1968, Ленинград), физик, астроном. Д-р физ.-мат. наук, проф. (1935). Брат Б.Э.Хайкина. В 1919–24 – в Кр. Армии. Окончил МГУ (1928), в 1930–46 преподавал там же, с 1937 зав. кафедрой общей физики. В 1931–33 зам. дир. Ин-та физики МГУ. В 1945–53 – в Физ. ин-те АН СССР (зав. сектором). В 1948–49 руководил созданием первой в СССР радиоастр. станции в Крыму. Основоположник сов. эксперим. радиоастрономии. Организатор (1953) и рук. отд. радиоастрономии Пулковской обсерватории. Под рук. Х. создана радиоастр. аппаратура, в т. ч. первый в мире радиотелескоп с антенной переменного профиля (Пулково, 1956), с помощью к-рого обнаружена и изучена круговая поляризация излучения активных областей на Солнце, исследовано радиоизлучение Луны, Венеры, Юпитера, определены точные координаты внегалактич. источников радиоизлучения. Автор трудов по радиотехнике, учебников «Физические основы механики» (в нач. 1950-х гг. подвергся резкой критике со стороны ортодокс. физиков и философов) и «Теории колебаний» (соавт. с А.А.Андроновым и А.А.Виттом).
