Таврической губ.В 1897 в Г. проживало 2816 евреев (34,9%), в 1910 — 4786 (36,9%), в 1914 — 4874 еврея и 42 караима, в 1923 — 1841 еврей, в 1926 — 1779, в 1939 — 947 евреев.Еврейская община в Г. сложилась в 1850-х гг., тогда же возникли синагога, еврейское кладбище и хевра кадиша. К 1910 заложено новое кладбище, имелись 2 синагоги, талмуд-тора (80 уч-ся), жен. уч-ще (60 уч-ц), 6 хедеров, 2 б-ки, об-во пособия бедным. В 1905 в Г. произошел трехдневный еврейский погром. Раввином в Г. в 1907 был И.Рубинштейн. В 1909 в Г. был открыт банкирский дом Д.Рашевского. В 1912 действовало еврейское мелкоторговое ссудо-сберегат. т-во. В период 1-й мир. войны в Г. прибыло большое кол-во беженцев; в 1916 были открыты жен. школа для беженцев и очаг. В 1918 австро-венг. оккупац. власти отправили в концлагерь всю общину Г. по доносу уволенного учителя талмуд-торы. Делегаты от общины Г. в 1919 участвовали в 1-м совещании еврейских общин Таврической губ. (Симферополь). В 1924 в Г. был организован еврейский колхоз «Трудовая коммуна им. Роменской орг-ции ЛКСМУ», в 1925 — колхозы «Надежда» и «Тикво».2—4 окт. 1941 в Г. было расстреляно св. 300 евреев.В Г. род.: И.А.Дайц, И.П.Казинец, Г.Я.Красный-Адмони, Б.А.Рубин; Самуил Львович Вишневецкий (р. 1921), д-р техн. наук (1966), проф. Die jüdische Gemeinde in Georgien wurde in den 1850er Jahren gegründet. Gleichzeitig erschienen eine Synagoge, ein jüdischer Friedhof und ein Khevra Kaddish. Bis 1910 wurde ein neuer Friedhof angelegt, es gab 2 Synagogen, eine Talmud-Tora (80 Studenten), Frauen. uch-shche (60 uch-ts), 6 Hedger, 2 Bibliotheken, etwaige Vorteile für die Armen. 1905 fand in Georgien ein dreitägiges jüdisches Pogrom statt.
