ГАРКАВИ Хаим Иосифович (1897 – 1958, Кисловодск), невролог, проф. (1931). По окончании мед. ф-та Ростовского-на-Дону ун-та ординатор, с 1925 там же ассистент клиники нервных и душевных болезней. Специализировался по нейрохирургии. В 1928 защитил докт. дис. «Пункция задней цистерны мозга». В 1931—51 зав. кафедрой нервных болезней Нижегородского (Горьковского) мед. ин-та. В 1934 организовал Горьковское об-во невропатологов и психиатров и был пред. его правления. Организовав нейрохирургич. отд. и патогистологич. лаб., Г. изучал вопросы диагностики и лечения опухолей головного и спинного мозга и черепно-мозговой травмы. Монография «Проникающие черепно-мозговые ранения в условиях Отеч. войны» удостоена пр. и диплома 1 степени. Г. был сторонником применения лейкотомии при лечении ряда психич. заболеваний, в 1951 в ходе кампании по «борьбе с космополитизмом» уволен с работы и вынужден уехать из Горького. Руководимая им клиника была ликвидирована.
