ГАБЛИЦ Карл Иванович (1752, Кенигсберг – 1821, Петербург), гос. деятель, естествоиспытатель, тайный советник (1800), сенатор (1808), поч. ч. Петерб. АН (1796). В 1758 прибыл в Россию с отцом, принятым на рос. службу и назначенным инспектором типографии Моск. ун-та. Окончил г-зию при Моск. ун-те (1768), слушал лекции на мед. ф-те ун-та. В 1769 причислен к Петерб. АН с откомандированием в эксп. проф. И.Г.Гмелина по изучению юж. окраин России. В 1769–75 участвовал в обследовании Ниж. Поволжья, зап., вост. и юж. берегов Касп. м. В 1776–81 пом. дир. Астраханской садовой конторы, проводил иссл. по улучшению виноделия, шелководства, садоводства и по акклиматизации растений. В 1781—82 участвовал в экспед. гр. М.И.Войновича в Астрабадский зал. Касп. м., составил ее описание («Ист. журнал б. эскадры на Касп. м. под командою графа Войновича», М., 1809). С состоял при князе Г.А.Потемкине, составил «Физ. описание Таврической обл.» (в 1788 переведено на франц., в 1789 на англ. и нем. яз.). С дек. 1784 советник Палаты уголовного суда в Симферополе, с 1787 – дир. экономии Таврического наместничества, к приезду имп. Екатерины II в Крым составил «Геогр. известия, объясняющие прежнее состояние Таврической обл.» (опубл. в 1803). В 1788–96 – вице-губернатор Таврического наместничества. С дек. 1796 состоял при ген.-прокуроре, ведал делами по устройству иностр. колонистов, занимался улучшением виноделия, овцеводства и др. отраслей с. х-ва, участвовал в разработке правил о разведении и сбережении лесов. С нояб. 1797 одноврем. товарищ (зам.) мин. деп-та уделов, с янв. 1800 исполнит. дел мин. уделов. С дек. 1802 през. Мануфактур-коллегии, с февр. 1803 гл. дир. Лесного деп-та, участвовал в разработке лесного законодательства, создал первые в России лесные школы в Царском Селе (1803) и Козельске (1805).
