- БЕРНШТЕЙН Иосиф Наумович (р. 1945, Москва), математик. Окончил МГУ (1968). Канд. физ.-матем. наук (1971). Работал в МГУ (1971–1979). С 1982 – в Гарвардском ун-те (США). Осн. результаты относятся к теории представлений групп, алгебраич. геометрии, суперматематике, комплексному анализу. Вместе с И.М. и С.И.Гельфандами в работе по представлениям групп Ли ввел понятие резольвенты для задачи классификации петель групп Ли. В теории функций комплексного переменного дал простое описание класса обобщенных функций, продолженных по параметру до мероморфных.

Gelfandami führte in seiner Arbeit über Darstellungen von Lie-Gruppen das Konzept eines Lösungsmittels für das Problem der Klassifizierung von Schleifen von Lie-Gruppen ein. In der Theorie der Funktionen einer komplexen Variablen gab er eine einfache Beschreibung der Klasse verallgemeinerter Funktionen, die in Bezug auf einen Parameter auf meromorphe erweitert wurden.- has abstract

Since 1982 - at Harvard University (USA). Main the results relate to the theory of group representations, algebraic. geometry, supermathematics, complex analysis. Together with I.M. and S.I. Gelfandami, in his work on representations of Lie groups, introduced the concept of a resolvent for the problem of classifying loops of Lie groups.
