Г.М.Бибер, одноврем. занимался композицией в классе В.А.Золотарева. По окончании Ленингр. конс. продолжил образование в Москве. В 1930 окончил Моск. конс. по классу фп. Ф.М.Блуменфельда. В 1931–39 преподавал там же (доцент класса фп.), также вел курс методики преподавания фп. игры; одноврем. науч. сотр. Н.-и. муз. ин-та при Моск. коне. В 1939–79 работал в Ленингр. коне, (с 1958 проф.), вел курсы истории и теории пианизма (с 1965 зав. кафедрой), методики обучения игре на фп. Наиболее значительные из его многочисл. трудов: «Фп. педагогика» (ч. 1, М., 1937), «Фп.-пед. принципы Блуменфельда» (М., 1964), «А.Г.Рубинштейн...» (т. 1–2, Л., 1957–62), «Н.Г.Рубинштейн» (М., 1982), «Вопросы фп. исполнительства и педагогики» (Л., 1968), «Путь к музицированию» (Л., 2 изд., 1979) и др.
