АВРУНИН Абрагам (1869–1957), филолог и специалист в обл. грамматики иврита. Род. в России; присоединился к движению Хиббат Цион и стал убежденным сионистом. В 1898 преподавал иврит в Минске и посвятил себя изучению ивритской лингвистики. С 1910 в Э.-И., где преподавал в ср. школах в Тель-Авиве и в колледже воспитателей дет. садов, осн. его учеником И.Гальпериным. А. боролся за использование чистого и грамотного иврита. Автор этимологич. и лингвистич. трудов, грамматики иврита (совм. с А.Пеппером, 1922), писал стихи и эпиграммы, вел колонку лингвиста в газ. «Гаарец» и был соредактором периодич. изд. «Ва’ад га-Лашон», «Лешонену ла-Ам».
