АТЕНИ, село в Горийском р-не (Грузия). Осн. в сер. 11 в. До присоединения к России в 1801 — в составе Картлийского царства, с 1802 — в Грузинской губ., с 1840 — в Горийском окр. Грузино-Имеретинской губ., с 1846 — в Горийском у. Тифлисской губ. В 1918—21 — в составе Грузинской Демократической Республики, в 1921—91 — ГССР.В 13—18 вв. А. — крупный торг. и адм. центр. В 18 в. в результате набегов дагестанцев был разорен. По свидетельству царевича Вахушти Багратиони (1745), в А. наряду с грузинами и армянами жили и евреи, имевшие синагогу.
