АЛЬФЕС (Альфас) Бенцион (1850, Вильна – 1940 Иерусалим), писатель. В Вильне работал корректором и в течение мн. лет. руководил фабрикой своей жены. А. посвятил свою жизнь религ. образованию и был одним из немногих писателей своего времени, к-рые могли сочетать светские устремления Гаскалы и ее идеологию с религ. лит. сочинениями на иврите и идише. Его реакцией на распространение светских ром. в 19 в. была кн. «Маасе Альфес» («История Альфеса»), издававшаяся сериями с 1900 и представлявшая собой сб. сказок на моральные темы с элементами аллегории и дидактики, выдерженных в эпистолярном жанре. Кн. выдержала 12 изд. и приобрела большую популярность. С 1924 в Э.-И. А. переводил с древнеевр. на идиш целый ряд религиозных трудов, в т. ч. философские работы Маймонида, а также издавал работы разн. авторов.
