АГРАНОВ Яков Соломонович (Саулович) (наст. фам. и имя Сорендзон Янкель Шевелев-Шмаев) (1893, Чечерск Рогачевского у. Могилевской губ. – 1938), работник органов гос. безопасности. В 1912—14 чл. партии эсеров, с 1915 – РСДРП(б). В 1919 20 секр. СНК, одноврем. особоуполномоченный при Президиуме ВЧК. С 1921 сотр. секретно-полит. отдела управления ВЧК-ГПУ. С окт. 1922 нач. особого бюро ГПУ. С 1923 зам. нач. Секретного отдела ОГ-ПУ, затем зам. нач. ОГПУ по Москве и Моск. обл. В февр. 1933 – июле 1934 зам. пред. ОГПУ, в июле 1934 – мае 1937 первый зам. наркома внутр. дел СССР, одноврем. в дек. 1936 – апр. 1937 нач. Гл. управления гос. безопасности НКВД СССР, в апр.-мае 1937 – нач. 4-го отдела этого управления. С мая 1937 нач. управления НКВД СССР по Саратовской обл. Осуществлял «надзор за следствием» (фактически фабриковал дела) по всем важнейшим полит, процессам 1920—30-х гг. (от т.н. дела Промпартии до дела Г.Е.Зиновьева-Л.Б.Каменева), вел следствие по делу т.н. Трудовой крест. партии («дело А.В.Чаянова-Н.Д.Кондратьева»). А. был близок с мн. писателями и поэтами, а фактически осуществлял надзор за их полит. настроениями.
