- בתוך העותק שנבדק נמצא דף מודפס (במכונת כתיבה) מאת מאיר גילון, בו מציין כי חקר את הספר הנוכחי כחלק ממחקרו על תקופת "טרום-ההשכלה". לפי גילון שם, הגיע למסקנה לגבי תאריך פרסום החיבור (צ"ל כתיבת החיבור? על עמוד השער מופיע תאריך פרסום), עליו "נחלקו דעות ראשי ההיסטוריונים (דינור, שלום)" יהודה פרידלנדר, במסתרי הסאטירה, י-ם תשמ"ט (חלקים מן החיבור בצירוף הערות ומבוא). יהודה פרידלנדר, "אב ותולדה - "בין פולמוס לסאטירה" : על "נזר הדמע" לר’ ישראל מזאמושץ", מגוון; מחקרים בספרות העברית ובגילוייה האמריקניים (תשמח) 323-346.
