- בדברי הפתיחה לספר פונה וייזל אל "מורי ואחי" ("שמעוני עוד מורי ואחי") ומרמז על קהל היעד שלו בספר זה: "אילו היה מגמתי לבד להצדיק את נפשי, ולהראות כי רבים אתי מחכמי ישראל, לא הייתי צריך להוסיף עוד דבר על המדובר במכתב השלישי [עין משפט]... אבל לפי שלא על הפרט הזה לבדו יצאתי, אלא בעבור הכלל כלו, ליישר לפניהם המסלה בסדר למוד תורתנו הקדושה, ובדרכי גדול הבנים, להודיעם אשר מצאה נפשי באלה..." (עמ' ב/2) ובהמשך: "...פרט אחר המחייבני להוציא גם המכתב הזה לאור. וזהו הדרשה הידועה שדרש רב אחד עלי ועל מכתבי...וחובה עלי להשיב על דבריו ולהסיר מעלי את תלונותיו." (עמ' ג/1)
