- The bookstamp reads: "יעקב בן ציון הכהן מענדעלסאן, רב הכולל בנוארק, Chief Rabbi J. Mendelson." Rabbi Mendelson was born in Eastern Europe, but emigrated to Great Britain, where he served as Rabbi in Glasgow, and then to emigrated to the United States. he eventually settled in Newark in 1919 and became its rabbi in 1921. He passed away in 1941. See: American Jewish Year Book Vol. 44 (1942–1943), p. 342.
