The beginning pages of the masekhet have swirling marks above certain words which essentially are symbols to inform the reader that there is a marginal note. These marks seem to end quickly, that is, by B.Ta'anit 3a, and the marginal notes end as well. Also note that on the first few pages the markings seem to be aimed at creating an index of sources so as to reference where quotes from the Tanakh are from or quotes from the Talmud are from. A commitment to this is coupled with another goal: to correct the text of the Talmud and Rashi probably based on other available manuscripts. There are fewer and fewer of these types of markings as we move through the masekhet, most concentrated on the first few pages of the masekhet in the first chapter, although there are some pages that do have more handwriting on them--but not many. Moed Katan (bound with this volume) has almost no markings, although there is one on 7a that completely differs from most other handwritten notes in Ta'anit. This copy also is bound with Moed Katan and has no flyleaves between the tractates as in other copies at Columbia. The pages do not seem as pristine as those of Shabbat and Eruvin, and I see no water marks. Can you help to date or locate this footprint?- Percent complete
