Thanks to Fabrizio Quaglia for the following information: “Fra Cyprianus”, whose surname is Uberti, born in Samone near Ivrea (Piedmont). He was named inquisitor from the future pope Pius V and was above all author of a Tavola delli inquisitori edited in Novara year 1586 (sources: Paolo Simoncelli, Inquisizione romana e riforma in Italia, “Rivista Storica Italiana”, 1988, pp. 5-125; on Uberti see pp. 120 and 123, in appendix to the essay the Tavola is reprinted; Giorgio Tibaldeschi, Un inquisitore in biblioteca: Cipriano Uberti e l’inchiesta libraria del 1599-1600 a Vercelli, “Bollettino Storico Vercellese”, XIX, 1990, 1, pp. 43-103, with many details on his life and works; and Uberti, Cipriano in Dizionario Storico dell’Inquisizione, vol. III, pp. 1605-1606, but there’s no reference to Jews). On 1591 the dominican monk Cipriano Uberti, inquisitor at Vercelli from 1563, commanded the friars Paolo Visconte and Vincenzo Matelica to censor the books and manuscripts owned by the Jewish brothers Aron and Lazzaro Vita Sacerdoti (see Renata Segre, editor, The Jews in Piedmont, document 1494 with list of the seized and returned material, but Avicenna is absent). It is not clear that this book was owned by Aron and Lazzaro Vita Sacerdoti.- Percent complete
